Amazon has launched a brand new Kindle -- the new Kindle Kids Edition – that is aimed at children. It comes with Amazon’s Free Time and Free Time Unlimited feature.
Amazon has introduced a new Kindle that is designed just for kids. The new Kindle Kids Edition comes with a 6-inch display with a resolution of 167 PPI. It come with Amazon's e-ink technology and an adjustable front light that makes it easier for kids to under various conditions. It comes with 8GB on-device storage and has Wi-Fi for connectivity.
What differentiates the new Kindle Kids Edition from other Kindle devices are the set of features that are aimed at helping children build their skills and vocabulary. While the newly launched Kindle Kids Edition borrows features like Word Wise, Dictionary and Vocabulary Builder from older Kindles, it has special Achievement Badges and Easy Discovery features especially aimed at helping children learn more.
Achievement Badges include badges like Book Worm and Over Achiever that kids get when they make progress towards their pre-defined goals, while the Easy Discovery allows kids to locate titles without the exact spelling.
Interestingly, the new Kindle Kids Edition comes with one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited which gives children access to unlimited to thousands of premium movies and TV shows on select Fire TV devices.
The new Kindle Kids Edition is available in black color variant with four cover options - Blue, Pink, Rainbow Birds and Space Station for $109.99 (Rs 7,800 approx). Amazon will start shipping the device starting October 30.
Apart from launching a special Kindle for Kids, Amazon also launched the new Fire TV HD 10 tablet. The new Fire TV HD 10 tablet comes with an octa-core processor and it sports 2GB RAM. It is available in two memory variants. While the one with 32GB memory is priced at $149.99 (Rs 10,600 approx), the one with 64GB space is priced at $189.99 (Rs 13,500 approx). You can also expand the storage space using a microSD card up to 512GB. In addition to that, the new Fire TV HD 10 comes with USB Type-C port for connectivity and a 9W fast charger. The newly launched tablet will go on sale on October 30.
Additionally, Amazon also launched a new Fire HD 10 Kids Edition tablet, which is priced at $199.99 (Rs 14,200 approx). The kid's edition of Fire HD 10 comes with the same features as the standard model. The only difference between the regular and the kid's edition tablets is the inclusion of a kid-proof case along with a one-year free subscription of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited.
In addition to this Amazon also announced that it is bringing its FreeTime app to the Fire TV Stick, which includes the Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) and Fire TV Stick 4K. The Free Time app will be available on select Fire TV Edition smart TVs later this year.
