If an OBC is first ranker,is he selected in reserved category?

This is a question that was striking me since long...

What happens if an OBC comes out to be the first ranker in any entrance exam,then would he be still selected as being a reserved category student?

Or he would be selected as a general category student,as in such a case he doesnt need any reservation for admission and free that OBC seat for someone who really needs the reservation?

If a OBC has the calibre of coming first in entrance exam, he / she will not choose his category as SC while applying for the exam. Instead he will choose General.

I have a friend like that who could have used this benefit but instead choose to compete under general. After two failed attempts, on the third he managed to clear the engineering entrance with a very good rank.

Needless to say, a man of character.
