  • Maoist Guerrillas Widen 'People's War' In India

Maoist rebels in India's central Chhattisgarh State have gained momentum and increasing violence has made it virtually impossible for government officials to function; villagers are caught in between government-aided village defense forces and rebels; hamlets have been burned and 50,000 people are now displaced; Maoist rebels are underground armed movement with no political representation, but it is hierarchical operation with presence in 13 of 28 Indian states; India is fertile ground for insurgents because there is sense of neglect in parts of country and swelling youth population, set against backdrop of high economic growth elsewhere in country; photos; map (L)

Will Maoist become a greater threat to all of India? Or will it remain just a local dispute? How come the military isn't coming into to capture or wipe out these rebels? Why does the village have to face them almost alone with an Anti-Maoist village force?

Maoist become a greater threat to all of India ... by their act they will try to divide India ... If they want to do some thing for nation than why they are doing violence why they are looting all trains .... by this they want to show they are doing good .. the only problem with india is that all politician are fool they came in politics to make money not for people.... why maoist had evolved ? coz all politcian had done nothing for the villager in many part of india .... people don't get food proper education after 60 yr of independence what they had done? ....
