  • Fog exposes airlines' CAT readiness

NEW DELHI That the airlines are far from being in a state of readiness was evident on Wednesday when they fumbled for a response as dense fog enveloped IGI Airport.

And thanks to the aviation ministry's empty threats of action against them if they were not ready to operate in fog every winter, passengers were once again at the receiving end. They waited for hours either in the aircraft or outside IGI's choked terminals.

This despite the fact that Delhi is the only place in India to boast of the advanced CAT III B instrument landing system that should allow planes to take off when visibility is hovering around the 150-metre mark.
