Dehradun (PTI): Nineteen officers and jawans were on Tuesday honoured with Sena Medals and Vishist Seva Medals by the army's Western Command for acts of valour and distinguished service.
Of the eight Sena Medals for Gallantry, one was conferred posthumously on Grenadier Virender Singh, who laid down his life fighting terrorists.
The medal was presented by Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen T K Sapru to the grenadier's widow Geeta Devi who has been offered a job by state-run Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Ltd.
Eight Sena Medals for Devotion to Duty and three Vishisht Seva Medals (VSMs) were also conferred.
