December 26, 2007: Two students from Mangalore drowned in the Arabian Sea near the St. Mary's Isles at Malpe in Udupi taluk this afternoon at around 3.15pm. The deceased have been identified as Vinod (21) and his friend Ajit (25) student of St. Aloysius evening college Mangalore. Their bodies were recovered at about 5pm.
According to Malpe Police both Vinod and Ajit had come along with their friends on a picnic to the St. Mary's Isles in the morning and were playing on the beach till late afternoon. But at 3pm they got into the water and due to strong current could not swim back to shore, the police quoted the eye witnesses who were on the shore. Some local people tried to save them but they were not successful due to strong currents...Read...
