Air India is to join Star Alliance, the first Indian carrier to join one of the three global airline groupings.
Star Alliance, established in 1997, is the biggest of the alliances with 19 members. It is led by Germany's Lufthansa, United Airlines of the US, Singapore Airlines and Japan's All Nippon Airways.
