India recorded less than 3 lakh new cases for five consecutive days on Friday, with the positivity rate in the country declining to 12.59 per cent. According to the ICMR, more than 20.61 lakh samples were tested for Covid-19 on Thursday, a record high in daily-tests conducted. Meanwhile, prompted by the acute shortage of Covid-19 vaccines, the government has issued a fresh set of guidelines for Covid-19 vaccination, calling for deferring inoculation of Covid-19 vaccine doses by certain categories of people. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will head to the US for a five-day visit on Monday, hoping to discuss vaccine procurement as well as joint manufacturing of Covid vaccine jabs with his American counterparts.
