The rupee gained 13 paise to 60.97 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on increased selling of the US currency amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market.
Besides, dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas also supported the rupee, forex dealers said.
Yesterday, the rupee rose by 25 paise to end at 61.
