  • Today Campa Cola residents water, power supply cut bye BMC

The municipal authorities and the residents of Worli's Campa Cola society are poised for another face-off on Friday as the BMC arrives to disconnect water, electricity and piped gas to the 96 illegal apartments. Residents plan to form a human barricade at the entrance to prevent the police and civic officials from entering the compound, just as they did during the last confrontation in November 2013. The BMC, however, does not wish to resort to force. It will film the proceedings and, should the residents use violence, it will return and present the footage to the Supreme Court.

A team of 10-15 civic officials, along with some employees of Mahanagar Gas and BEST, will reach the Campa Cola compound on Friday at 11.30am. They mean to start cutting off the power, gas and water supplies to the illegal flats soon after.

Expecting resistance, the BMC on Thursday set up barricades in the lane outside the compound, emptied it and disallowed entry of vehicles. A few maids who usually sit outside the compound were told to leave the area.
