But the next time Indian squad takes the field - against arch-rivals Pakistan, no less - they may not be allowed to bear the national banner on their cricketing gear.
The Indian team's practice of sporting the tricolour on clothing and equipment has apparently become a red flag for the government, which has issued instructions to the Indian cricket Board in this regard.
"Two days back, we got a letter from the sports ministry which is our nodal ministry, and very soon we will pass on the instructions to the players," BCCI secretary S K Nair confirmed to TNN on Sunday from Thiruvananthapuram.
