  • Govt, Bollywood to make film on Tatya Tope

New Delhi: The government has entered into a partnership agreement with a Bollywood producer for making a film on legendary freedom fighter Tatya Tope.

The period film Tatya , budgeted at Rs 50 crore, will be produced by famous Bollywood producer Feroz Nadiadwala and National Films Development Corporation (NFDC) with government sharing half of the expenditure. "Rs 25 crore will be paid by us (the government) on 50:50 partership basis. This partnership will help us in a way that it will take care of the marketing aspect of the film also," Minister of Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi said here today.

Speaking at the launch of Independence-themed calenders of Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity, Dasmunsi said the commercial release of the film on Tatya Tope was better than making a historical documentary which does not usually attract enough audience. The film will be directed by Vinay Shukla and is expected to be ready by August 15, 2008.

At the function, the Minister released the official wall calendar as well as a desk calendar brought out by DAVP. The six-sheet wall calendar titled "India@60" is a pictorial depiction of the nation's progress in the last 60 years. The Minister also released the annual reference book India-2008 and Bharat-2008 in English and Hindi respectively.
