New Delhi, Jan 25: The decision that the highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, would not be conferred this year, comes as an anti-climax to the competing claims by various political parties to confer the award on their respective leaders.
This year is the seventh in a row when the highest honour is not being awarded to anyone. The possibility of a prominent personality, either living or dead, being considered for the award was ruled out over a debate raised by various political parties, who competed with each other to put forward their leaders as nominees.
