As Thuy Trang had gained the best result in the qualifying round, she was the final cyslist to start the finals. Also, Thuy Trang had beat Japanese champion Mio Suemasa. Therefore, Thuy Trang was expected to win a gold medal for the host. However, Thuy Tral fell during the race and finished runner-up, clocking 03:40.72, just behind Suemasa, who clocked 03:30. Another Vietnamese cyclist Le Kim Hoa won a bronze medal in the event.
