Default Maharashtra: Unseasonal rainfall, hailstorm damages Rabi crop

Heavy unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm in several parts of Maharashtra have damaged thousands of hectares of Rabi crop. The government has now started a crop survey.

Standing crops like wheat, jowar and onion has been severely hit. Scores of houses have also been damaged in the last few days.
With elections round the corner, opposition parties have already upped the ante. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is likely to visit affected areas on Tuesday to take stock.
"I will be visiting the affected areas. The government has to pay for the damages," said MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
With heavy rainfall expected to continue for the next few days, more crop damage is feared.
