  • J&K floods

Heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir continue to be a cause for concern. At least 70 people have died in two days as floods sweep through several districts of the state.

Fifty people died on Thursday when a bus fell into a gorge in Rajouri district. Many areas in Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama and Poonch districts are flooded.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased.

The flood situation became serious with unprecedented heavy downpour continuing for the fourth day today. 10 districts of the Valley indicate hundreds have abandoned homes in inundated areas to shift to safer places.

Electric supply in most areas of south Kashmir districts remains suspended because of uprooted electric poles and apprehensions of accidents due to electric short circuits in water logged villages and towns.
