  • NSG Commandos in Taj, Trident hotels; firing on

More than 100 people have been killed, including six foreigners and at least 287 injured in a series of well-coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Terrorists, who apparently came in by boats, struck at 10 places in south Mumbai including five-star hotels, hospitals and train stations.

There is a desperate hostage situation in at least two locations -- the Taj and the Trident hotels. In the Taj Colaba, at least 100 people are believed to be trapped probably held hostage by terrorists. Some of these are Israeli and Canadian nationals.

NSG and Military Commandos have entered the Taj and Trident hotels. Several staff members at the hotels have been killed, including two at Trident. Gunshots continue to be heard.

NSG Commandos have launched operations in the Nariman House building in Colaba. This was the second place that was attacked in Mumbai. Two men came on a scooter and hurled a grenade at nearby petrol pump.

Though the grenade missed the petrol reservoir, it destroyed a facade of the station. The terrorists then ran into Nariman House building behind petrol pump into a Jewish residential building. Here, the terrorists murdered two people and then went silent for several hours till early this morning. This is another place apart from the Taj and the Trident, which are under siege.

According to latest reports, policemen have succeeded in flushing out terrorists from the Cama hospital and everything seems to be calm now. Curfew has been imposed at Colaba and Gateway of India. At least 800 Army personnel have been deployed at various locations in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare, Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar were among the 11 police officials killed fighting the terrorists on Wednesday night.Hemant Karkare last night wore a helmet, talked on his cellphone and finally put on a bullet-proof jacket before he met his deathly fate in the country's biggest terror seize.
He was probing the Malegaon blasts case, suffered three bullet injuries in his chest as he was leading the offensive against the terrorists in one of the places the ultras had holed out early this morning.
Karkare, a 1982 batch IPS officer, became the head of ATS in January this year following his return to the state cadre after serving seven years in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Austria.
We at IndiaBook pay our tributes to these brave heroes who have laid down their lives in their line of duty.

It is really shameful and it is also clear now from the series of blasts that the main purpose of terrorists is to scare people living in metro cities and to harm the economy of India as after these blasts this news comes up :

" NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Multinationals ranging from technology giants to consumer makers scrambled to verify the safety of their employees in Mumbai after a series of blasts and gun attacks ripped through India’s financial capital Wednesday.

With news of gun fire and attacks in Mumbai hotels still coming in, U.S. and European companies with active businesses in India were faced with the difficult task of piecing together information as it trickled through in bits and pieces."

                Mumbai blast

I feel so said about the Mumbai Terrorist Blast, I hate to hear about this attack on Mumbai. There are eighteen people were killed late yesterday. The police as saying that at least 10 people were killed and more than 30 injured in gunfire at the main Chhatrapati Shivaji railway station and they said Three staff were shot dead in a separate shooting incident at the luxury Taj Mahal hotel in nearby Colaba district and Another three people died in what was described as a “bomb blast” in a taxi in the south-east of the city.
Maharashtra state police chief A N Roy was quoted as saying that “at least two terrorists” were holed up inside the top-end Trident hotel in the neighbouring Nariman Point business district.
He said police were battling the gunmen.
“The terrorists have used automatic weapons and in some places grenades have been lobbed,” he added.

The international community has strongly condemned Wednesday's terror attacks in the Indian financial capital, Mumbai, that have killed at least 80 people, including foreigners.

The White House issued a statement saying it convened a meeting of top intelligence and counter-terrorism officials Wednesday to discuss the attacks. The statement said the United States is ready to help the Indian government, with President George Bush offering condolences to the victims' families.

The U.S. State Department said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is planning to reach out to Indian officials. U.S. officials said they are not aware of any American casualties.

Crisis in Taj nearly ended at 13.30 on Thursday when officials in charge said all hostages have been brought out of the hotel to safety.

Atleast one crisis ends.Let us hope the others also end up safely.

                            Thank God its over....... finally

The 60 hour ordeal has come to an end as commandos captured the Taj Mahal Hotel, flusing out the last terrorist at 8.45 IST. The commandos are carrying out the final combing operations to look for survivors.
