  • Chintpurni Temple (Himachal)

Chintpurni Temple is situated on Mandi-Hoshiarpur road around 165 kms from Hanogi. The goddess is called Chintpurni because 'Chinta' means 'worry' and the Devi is believed to remove her devotees' worries.

Legend says that Sati's feet fell here when Vishnu chopped her body with Chakra. It is also believed that the Devi appeared in a Brahmin's dream whose name was Maidass and told him about her idol being buried under a stone. Maidass dug that idol out and collected funds from the local persons and constructed a temple of Mata Chintpurni. The goddess again appeared in Maidass's dream and ordered him to upturn a large stone.

Maidas followed her instructions and on upturning that stone a spring sprouted from that place. Since then the idol of Devi is bathed with this spring water. The stone is still placed in the temple complex. Today many Dharamshalas (lodging places) have been constructed for devotees. There are 184 stairs that lead to a beautiful pond. The beauty of this place is unique.
