  • Verdict of POTA Court on Akshardham temple Attack

    Four years after the attack on Akshardham temple, the special POTA court has given a historical judgment by convicted six persons for the attack and gave three of them the death sentence.


    In a stern sentence, the court sentenced three of the six accused, Adam Ajmeri, Abdul Qayoom and Chand Khan, the death sentence. Salim Mohammad Sheikh has been sentenced to life imprisonment, while Abdul Qadiri has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. The sixth accused, Altaf Hussain gets a five-year prison term.


    Thirty-three people, including two National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and two State police commandos, have been killed and 81 injured in the terrorist attack on September 24, 2002.

    The Akshardham temple, run by the Akshar Purshottam Swaminarayan Sansthan, was stormed by two Pakistan-based terrorists belonging to the Lashker-e-Toiba who were clad in Army uniforms. They opened indiscriminate fire and lobbed grenades at people within the temple complex.
