  • CII Survey: 24x7 Power for Industries Chandigarh

In a recent news, India has for the first time in history, declared that it will not have a power deficit this year. As per the latest data from the Central Electricity Authority, the country will have a surplus of 3.1% during peak hours and 1.1% during non-peak hours during 2016-17.

The data suggests that the northern states will continue to have a deficit of 1.8% during the year, almost negligible compared to a deficit of 4.8% last year. However there are many states in the region which claim to be power surplus but the situation in the ground seems to be different from the claim. Nonetheless, the supply of power especially to industries still remain erratic with power cuts and low quality of power leading to huge losses at the plant level including additional investments in alternate backup sources to ensure 24x7 power.

Given this background and with an objective to make 24x7 Power a reality, CII Northern Region has undertaken this survey to understand the power supply situation in the northern states especially to the industries. Based on the survey, the CII will make state specific recommendations by studying the loopholes in the power value chain and present it to key policy makers of the states.
