    Rajya Sabha

    Lok Sabha is the lower house of the Parliament. It is also know as House of the People. The president has the power to dissolve the Lok Sabha.

    The members of Lok Sabha is directly elected by the Indian peoples excluding two who are appointed by the President of India. Every Citizen of India who is over 18 years of age is eligible to vote for the Lok sabha elections.

    According to our Constitution 552 is the maximum strength of the Lok Sabha members & its time period is 5 Years.

    552 members are made up by election of upto 530 members to represent the States, upto 20 members to represent the Union Territories & rest two is nominated by the President of India.

    The 15th Lok Sabha consists of 545 members including the Speaker and two nominated members.

    Minimum age to become a Lok Sabha member is 25 Years


    The total elective membership of Lok Sabha is distributed among the States in such a way that the ratio between the number of seats allotted to each State and the population of the State is, so far as practicable, the same for all States. The number is divided among the 28 States and the 7 Union Territories as follows:

    Lok Sabha Sitting Timing

    During Session, Lok Sabha holds its sittings usually from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. and from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. Sometimes sittings are continuously held without taking lunch break . It doesn't sit on Saturdays and Sundays and other closed holidays.

    Question hour:

    The first hour of every sitting of Lok Sabha is called the Question hour. Question asking in Parliament is the right of Lok Sabha members. Its free of cost. Every member of Lok Sabha can ask question on different aspects of administration and Government policy in the national as well as international spheres.
    The related minister has to get ready to stand up & give answer for his Ministry's acts of omission or commission.
