    liquid election in Punjab

Indeed, in quite a few constituencies rival candidates not only matched the distribution of liquor bottle for bottle but they also competed over brand-quality as well. The Assembly elections in Punjab have confirmed yet again that the Election Commission’s strict enforcement of the model code has merely driven the use of money by rival candidates underground. The influence of money-power hasn’t been reduced in any significant way. Senior leaders of rival parties looked the other way while candidates arranged to deliver truck-loads of liquor to various segments of their constituencies.
