HMD Global on Thursday launched a new budget smartphone - the Nokia 2.3 - at a special event in Cairo. The newly launched budget smartphone succeeds the Nokia 2.2 that was launched last year and it comes with a button dedicated for invoking Google Assistant.

In terms of the specifications, the Nokia 2.3 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1520x720 pixels. It features a water-drop notch in the front that houses the phone's 5MP selfie camera. It is powered by quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor and it sports 2GB RAM with 32GB internal memory that can be expanded further up to 400GB using a microSD card.

On the software front, the Nokia 2.2 successor runs on Android 9.0 Pie, which seems a bit old given the timeline of launch. However, HMD Global says that the phone is "ready for Android 10 and beyond" and that the phone will get three years of security updates and two years of software updates. As far as the camera is concerned, the Nokia 2.3 comes with a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 13MP lens with a focal length of f/2/2 and a 2MP depth sensor with LED flash. On the front, as I mentioned before the phone comes with a 5MP camera with a focal length of f/2.4.

The newly launched phone also comes with a bunch of new camera-focused features. It comes with a Recommended Shot feature which according to the company helps users pick the best picture when clicking multiple shots of the same subject. Nokia also claims that the phone is capable of capturing highlights in low-light conditions using its AI-powered image fusion technology.

The dual SIM phone has Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS and Wi-Fi 802.11 for connectivity and it is backed by a gigantic 4,000mAh battery that is coupled with a 5V1A charger.

As far as the price and availability goes, the Nokia comes at a starting price of 109 euros (Rs 8,600 approx). It is available in three color variants -- Cyan Green, Sand, and Charcoal, and it will be available starting mid-December. Nokia hasn't revealed as to when it will launch the phone in India or how much it would cost, but we expect the phone to cost under Rs 10,000.

Now, we can say that Nokia is back on the game. Wait for blockbuster announcement from Nokia to release the best smartphone of the world at an affordable price just like that previous blockbuster smartphone Nokia 1110. The Nokia 1110 is the highest sold mobile device of all time, selling about 250 million units

        HMD Global

HMD Global Oy, branded as HMD, is a Finnish mobile phone company, made up of the mobile phone business that Nokia had sold to Microsoft in 2014, then bought back in 2016. HMD Oy (limited company) began marketing smartphones and feature phones under the Nokia brand on 1 December 2016. The company has exclusive rights to the Nokia brand for mobile phones through a licensing agreement. The company was created by inheriting Microsoft Mobile's feature phone business, which was sold to Microsoft by Nokia in 2014. HMD is in a 'close partnership' with Google, and uses the Android operating system under the Android One program on their smartphones, whereas HMD's feature phones use the Series 30+ platform, or most recently, the Firefox OS-derived KaiOS. The HMD brand is only used for corporate purposes and does not appear in advertising, whereas the name Nokia Mobile is used on social media.

HMD is headquartered in Espoo, Finland, and is largely run by former Nokia executives. The first CEO was Arto Nummela, a Nokia veteran of 17 years, until July 2017, when company president Florian Seiche took over as CEO. Manufacturing is outsourced to Foxconn. Nokia has no investment in HMD, but remains a partner, setting mandatory requirements and providing patents and technologies, in return for royalty payments. HMD uses a marketing strategy advertising Nokia phones as "pure, secure and up to date" (referring to a stock Android interface and its commitment to fast updates) as well as brand trust and nostalgia.
