Escape fires are an unconventional solution to a difficult problem faced by firefighters- stopping approaching wildfire from expanding further when no escape exists. They are smaller fires lit deliberately to clear an area of vegetation and work by depriving an approaching larger fire of fuel. So when the primary fire reaches the point where the escape fire started, it can no longer continue as there is nothing there to burn. |
Think of escape fires as counter-intuitive solutions that one may be overlooking, that could help eliminate or reduce some challenges we face. |
