    The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the eminent consortium of business and industry in India is pleased to announce the “CII Inter-Industry Competition on EHS 2021 & Sharing of best practices on Environment, Health and Safety Management (EHS) on 23rd July 2021 to recognize the excellence of organizations in the sphere of EHS for the year 2021-22.



    About CII: EHS Competition / Excellence Awards 2021



    1) “CII EHS Competition” will recognize the Best Practices of organizations in the sphere of Environment Health and Safety practices and Management at the work place. EHS Management system ensures that environmental, health and safety issues are identified, corrected, and communicated to the Management.



    2) Due to the on-going pandemic, the responsibility on the EHS professionals in industries have increased many-fold. The pandemic has caused significant personal and business disruptions to virtually every aspect of life. Businesses are being challenged by the financial markets, supply chain threats, cyber security threats, plus questions regarding future growth, sustainability, and expansion. The immediate focus for the business community is on the safety and welfare of employees, as well as economic survival. Notwithstanding these well-founded concerns, companies, and in particular their environmental, health, and safety staffs need to be prepared to address employees' concerns regarding issues related to the company's COVID-19 response and management.



    3) In India, an estimated 82% workplaces do not comply with the EHS norms. Given its importance, companies are giving high priority to their EHS practices and to excel in it. Understanding the importance of developing consciousness and adoption of EHS practices in every organisation is the need of the hour. CII has been continuously working towards it for over decades.



    4) More than 100 EHS teams from across the country [industry/institutions] with strong commitments towards Environment, Health & Safety Excellence / Management participate in the CII EHS competition. The programme is also attended by delegates from Industry, world class Universities and Institutions’ to get understanding of best practices on EHS. Over 200 participants comprising Environment, Health and Safety experts from Industry and Institutions attend the competition.



    5) CII invites applications for this Award from its member and non-member organizations based on their contribution towards effective implementation of EHS in their respective organizations.



    OBJECTIVE OF EHS COMPETITION

    · To have an unbiased and common framework of EHS evaluation across the organization through competition amongst the Industries.

    · To provide a platform to be part of unique knowledge sharing and best practices sharing platform for improving EHS culture in the organization



    WHO ALL CAN PARTICIPATE

    § A large, medium, small enterprise or independent unit/division

    § All manufacturing and service sector

    § Academia: Universities and Institutions’ imparting courses on EHS

    Sectors:

    o Manufacturing & Engineering

    o Construction & Infrastructure

    o Oil & Gas

    o Chemicals and Petrochemicals

    o FMCG

    o Services (including IT, Hospitals, Hotels & Hospitality industry)

    o Academia; Universities, Engineering departments; students and faculty

    o Others



    RULES

    1) The competition will be in virtual platform

    2) Each Participating group must submit a one-page summary of their presentation on “Innovative Excellence towards at their Workplace” (Format enclosed). The summary must be submitted to CII on or before 17 July 2021 along with the nomination form. This is mandatory and primary condition to take part in the competition.

    3) Any change in presentation / summary will be acceptable after submission

    4) Every team will make a presentation in front of Jury Members followed by a question/answer session. Duration of presentation by each team is of 12 minutes. An additional 5 minutes will be provided for question & answer session.

    5) The performance of individual groups will be assessed by the Jury members from Industry/Government Organizations.

    6) The summary papers should be submitted in English. Presentation can be made in English/Hindi.

    7) There is no restriction on the number of groups participating from each organization in each area; Environment, Health & Safety

    8) Pre-recording of the presentation will be acceptable in case of any technical / operational issues.

    9) The soft copy of the presentation, nominations form and synopsis must be submitted to CII on or before the last date of nomination.



    AWARDS

    Three teams in each of the following categories will be awarded with a CII Trophy along with a Certificate of Excellence. CII Participation Certificates will be given to all.
