    In the last ten years, computing has advanced at an incredible pace, but if I had to choose one hardware innovation that truly reshaped the industry, it would be the rise of solid-state drives (SSDs), closely followed by GPUs evolving into AI accelerators. Both of these have fundamentally changed how we interact with technology and how industries push innovation forward.

    Here’s why I believe these innovations stand out:
    • Solid-State Drives (SSDs):
      • Replaced mechanical hard drives with faster, more reliable storage.
      • Reduced boot times from minutes to seconds, making everyday computing much smoother.
      • Enabled thinner laptops, lighter devices, and energy-efficient designs.
      • Lower failure rates compared to spinning disks, giving users more reliability.
      • Large-scale adoption in data centres improved performance for cloud services, streaming platforms, and enterprise applications.
    • Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for AI & Beyond:
      • Originally designed for gaming graphics, GPUs have become the backbone of AI, machine learning, and data science.
      • Allowed breakthroughs in natural language processing, computer vision, and autonomous driving.
      • Made high-performance computing accessible beyond traditional supercomputers.
      • Supported growth in blockchain and cryptocurrency mining, impacting global tech markets.
      • Driven by companies like NVIDIA and AMD, GPUs are now as important as CPUs in many fields.
    • Other Honourable Mentions:
      • ARM-based processors powering energy-efficient mobile and desktop computing (e.g., Apple’s M1/M2 chips).
      • High-speed connectivity like Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6 that improved data transfer and wireless efficiency.
      • 3D NAND and NVMe technology, which expanded SSD potential even further.

    Final Thoughts:
    If I had to crown just one, I’d say SSDs changed everyday user experience the most, while GPUs redefined the future of computing by powering AI. Together, they represent the shift from traditional, limited systems to lightning-fast, intelligent, and scalable computing.
