    • Whatsapp Pay Will Be Rolled Out In India In Phased Manner As Facebook Gets NPCI Nod

WhatsApp Pay will finally be rolled out in India. The Facebook-owned company has received a licence from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). WhatsApp Pay will be released in a phased manner in India. The digital payments service from WhatsApp is so far available to Indian users under a pilot. The roll-out of WhatsApp Pay will help WhatsApp grow its payments service, and it will reach over 400 million users in the country. The payment service uses the government’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to enable mobile transactions. Facebook has finally managed to get approval as the company was trying to launch the WhatsApp Pay service in India since 2018. It got approval to test the service with one million users in India in 2018, as a part of the beta testing.

Business Standard reported that WhatsApp Pay service will first be rolled out to 10 million users in India. “Pending other compliance points, the messaging platform will be able to do a full rollout,” said a person familiar with the matter. “The full rollout would make WhatsApp Pay one of the largest mobile payments services” in the country.

The device we expect to see tomorrow could be the long-awaited Redmibook. And the video does seem to suggest that Redmi is gearing up to launch a laptop in the Indian market. At the moment, India’s laptop market is ruled by Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Acer. Given the market size, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Xiaomi entering the laptop market. In fact, it makes sense for Redmi to look beyond the smartphone market, which is already crowded. The laptop market is one segment where Xiaomi’s Redmi brand can grow quickly. Considering Xiaomi is a known player in the laptop market in China, the company would like to replicate the model in India as well. Though Xiaomi has done exceptionally well in India, it is no exaggeration to say that the laptop market works differently. A lot also depends on how Redmi positions its laptops in India.

        • Youtube May Pull Off Another Apple TV: New Subscription Service In Talks

          HIGHLIGHTS
          • YouTube may step into the TV subscription market soon, following Amazon and Apple TV.
          • This may help the platform to concentrate its viewers on its platform and gain more traction.
          • It's a risk worth taking for YouTube as it can compensate from the revenue from its existing channels according to analysts.

It seems that YouTube could pull off another Apple TV as it may soon offer a feature that would allow its subscribers to sign up for services from third-party entertainment companies. The agenda is clear. Its viewers will get everything from one platform and there is less likelihood for them to drift to other platforms. There are speculations that the subscribers of the world’s largest free video streaming service will be able to sign-up to various OTT platforms through YouTube. In simple words, YouTube will become the medium through which its subscribers can sign up for other third-party channels. Through YouTube, they will be able to access the wide-range of subscription-based streaming services.

There is no clarity from the company’s side if YouTube TV would be tied to the new subscription offering or if it would be separate. YouTube, can however afford to take this risk because and make up for the revenue from other means, according to an analyst with Park Associates.

          • Airtel Gains More 4g Subscribers After Jio Brings IUC Charges

            HIGHLIGHTS
            • Since Jio brought in the 6 paise IUC fares, customers have migrated to Airtel.
            • Airtel has gained 21 million 4G subscribers in a single quarter.
            • Some other telcos which tried to impose internet usage charges but took a U-turn were Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

Reliance Jio’s six paise interconnect usage charges (IUC) may have been frowned upon by its users but have proved profitable for Bharti Airtel. For the first time, the company has gained 21 million 4G subscribers in a single quarter. (September-December). • Snapdragon 865

Qualcomm has mentioned the variants in which manufacturers can use the Snapdragon 865 for their phones. The chip supports 5G as expected but Qualcomm isn’t bundling a 5G modem with the Snapdragon 865. Manufacturers will need to opt for the Snapdragon X55 5G modem separately to aid 5G support on their devices. Weirdly, according to a report from The Verge, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 865 is meant to be used with 5G networks only.

That means that no manufacturer can come out with a phone powered by the Snapdragon 865 and pair it with a different 4G modem. The Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon X55 5G modem are a combination that all phone makers will need to buy. Hence, every phone using the Snapdragon 865 will support 5G, regardless of whether the area or country has 5G networks or not.

However, Qualcomm still has another chipset that will come with the 5G modem built-in. It’s called the Snapdragon 765 and it comes with native support for 5G networks. The Snapdragon 765 is meant for premium phones that aren’t flagship models and is essentially a successor to the Snapdragon 730 chip from last year. Again, there are no technical details available yet but expect Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi K30 and Realme X50 5G phone to use this chipset for the 5G supported variants.

Qualcomm says the new Snapdragon 865 has a better-sustained performance for both CPU and GPU, which should mean mobile games could run smoother for longer periods. The chip also supports 15TOPS of AI processing capabilities, which means you can expect better AI features for cameras, augmented reality and more. The Snapdragon 865 will also come with support for AptX Voice along with Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6, which translates to better quality for calls via Bluetooth and faster Wi-Fi speeds. There’s also support for AptX Adaptive that can play Hi-Res 24-bit 96kHz audio files as well.

On an ending note, the Snapdragon 865 will also bring in support for phone cameras higher than 108 megapixels. Seems like interesting times are up ahead.
