Between delivering lab samples, removing soiled linen bags and running routine errands, it’s hard for nurses to make time for the most important task: interacting with their patients. This is what scientists at Diligent Robotics hoped to address when they built Moxi, a hospital robot. With an arm to reach, a gripper to pick up objects and a mobile base to move, Moxi is able to complete duties end to end independently without being asked, relieving nurses of non-patient-facing tasks that studies show they otherwise spend up to 30% of their shifts on.

      JioPhone Lite

Rumors have emerged of Reliance working on a cheaper JioPhone Lite that will only be able to make calls and have no smart features.
It has been a few years since the original JioPhone launched and since then, there have been upgraded versions in the market, with rumors of an affordable smartphone joining the lineup eventually. However, the original JioPhone soldiered on, outselling the JioPhone 2, this proving that the simpler variant appealed more to the masses. Reliance now wants to capitalize on the idea by bringing a cheaper version of the JioPhone.

According to a report from 91Mobiles, Reliance is now working on a JioPhone Lite - a cheaper version of the JioPhone. The JioPhone was already cheap and it's easy to wonder how that could be made even cheaper. The report says that the JioPhone Lite will strip off all the 'smart' features and will essentially be just a mobile phone capable of making calls- no internet, no apps, and nothing.

The report goes on to mention that JioPhone Lite will have a small display and an alphanumeric T9 keypad. There's no mention of the presence of the camera or FM Radio in the rumored JioPhone Lite.

While the presence of no modern features is worrisome for most users, Reliance is said to do that because of the price. The JioPhone Lite is expected to be priced as low as Rs 399 in the market, which is much cheaper than the regular JioPhone. The extremely low price is aimed to appeal to those users who cannot spend much on a phone and need a device just for calling.

Reliance is also expected to bring extremely affordable prepaid plans for the JioPhone Lite. Jio could end up offering a plan worth Rs 50 that could offer a validity of 28 days. Calls from Jio to Jio will be free but calls made to other networks will be charged. Users could also expect 100 free SMSes but since the phone won't support the Internet, the plans won't offer any data.

Do note that this is just a rumor and there's no concrete evidence of whether Reliance is going to make the JioPhone Lite. However, if it becomes a reality, the JioPhone Lite could be among the cheapest phones money can buy today. You can find hundreds of cheap mobile phones at prices much lower than what the JioPhone Lite is rumored to cost, with some of them even offering 2G Internet connectivity and an FM Radio.

However, Jio's offering might end up offering better value with no more call benefits and cheaper recharge plans.

The day is finally here. The telecom companies have finally revealed their revised prepaid plan prices and it is surely going to change the way we use the telecom services from now on. Airtel which is one of the leading telecom operators in the country has increased the prepaid plan prices by introducing revised plans that will be available to the subscribers from December 3, 2019.

Our new mobile plans offer tremendous value to our customers and are backed by a superior network experience on Airtel’s nationwide 4G network. -- Rs 2398 plan: Airtel is giving unlimited calling, 100 SMS per day, and 1.5 GB per day under this plan. This is a revised version of the Rs 1699 plan that offered the same benefits but a lower price.

Airtel Discontinues Rs. 23 Prepaid Recharge, Now Offering Rs. 45 as Base Plan

Airtel has issued a public notice that the base recharge plan of Rs. 23 is being discontinued for prepaid users in all circles and is being replaced by the Rs. 45 prepaid plan. This means a 95 percent price hike has been introduced on the base plan. This new price is already live in all circles, and the telecom operator has reportedly issued a notice in all major newspapers across India. The Rs. 45 prepaid recharge will offer the same benefits as the Rs. 23 prepaid plan.

The new public notice states that the new Rs. 45 Airtel smart recharge will offer local and STD voice calling at 2.5paise per second, 5 paise per second for national video calls, and 50 paise per MB for data. SMS tariff is at rupee 1 per SMS for local, Rs. 1.5 per SMS for national, and Rs. 5 per SMS for international messages. The validity of the new Rs. 45 plan is 28 days. These are the same benefits as the Rs. 23 prepaid recharge plan that has now been discontinued. The revised pricing is now live on the Airtel Thanks app and the website as well. It was first reported by DreamDTH.

Vivo To Stop Launching Online-Exclusive Phones In India Next Year

Samsung, Oppo, and Realme have also reportedly made similar commitments.
Giving in to a long-standing demand of mobile retailers, Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has assured that it will put an end to online exclusive launches in India as part of its 2020 strategy. In a letter to its retail partners, Jerome Chen, CEO, Vivo Mobiles India, said that the company will ensure the simultaneous launch of the same product/variant at the same time and at the same price point across channels. The Vivo-branded products will have consistent price and offers across offline and online, he said.

"With consumer satisfaction at our core, we aim to keep our business partners, employees, and shareholders content with all our decisions," Chen said.

"Having said that, we urge our offline partners to strive together and make the buying experience worth appreciating for our customers," he added.

The All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) has thanked Vivo for the initiative.

"We thank and appreciate @Vivo_India for their support against unfair e-commerce trade practices! Together, let's bring in the new change for mobile retailers with fair business opportunities," AIMRA said in a tweet on Friday which also carried a copy of the letter from the Vivo Mobiles India CEO.

According to reports, Samsung, Oppo, and Realme have made similar commitments to launch their future smartphones across online and offline channels at the same time.

            WI-FI for events

Numerous events need a steady and reliable Wi-Fi network. As an industry leader, Trade Show Internet petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) successfully to protect a Wi-Fi consumer’s freedom of choice. Since the year 2008, the company has offered a wide variety of solutions to meet the requirements of its consumers. This includes plug and plays Wi-Fi for events for up to a maxim of 100 users or larger events where high-density wireless networks are designed and installed.

In addition, a qualified team of network engineers monitors the network on-site to ensure the network runs smoothly. This is highly important especially in events that are dependent on a steady Wi-Fi network. It is important to remember that no two events can be similar and neither can two Wi-Fi-systems. The company fully understands this and installs the appropriate equipment, from leading software and hardware manufacturers, to meet the user’s coverage and capacity requirements.

            Wi-Fi services provided on-site include;

Wi-Fi captive portal and branded splash page, which is designed to let experimental marketers design the Wi-Fi experience for their guests with an objective to achieve their brand goals.
            High-density Wi-Fi.
            Network monitoring and usage reports.
            Outdoor Wi-Fi.
            Interference and risk alleviation.
Furthermore, it is important for those holding events to keep in mind that the company needs permission from the venue before they install their network infrastructure. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the event organizers to work on this with the venue managers. The company has a Certificate of Insurance ready upon request when venue managers request to see it before they grant permission for installations. However, if an event is taking place in a hotel or another rented venue, it is important for the event organizers to negotiate to bring their own Wi-Fi vendors before signing the lease agreement. If the venue requires in-house Wi-Fi vendors, then the event organizers should request separate vendor bids. To reduce costs, it would be wise to request a list of all associated venue fees including electrical, fiber cross-connect, patch panel, roof access, and other services.

              Hyperloop

A Hyperloop is a proposed mode of passenger and/or freight transportation, first used to describe an open-source vactrain design released by a joint team from Tesla and SpaceX. Hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction conveying people or objects at high speed while being very efficient, thereby drastically reducing travel times over medium-range distances.

Elon Musk's version of the concept, first publicly mentioned in 2012, incorporates reduced-pressure tubes in which pressurized capsules ride on air bearings driven by linear induction motors and axial compressors.

The Hyperloop Alpha concept was first published in August 2013, proposing and examining a route running from the Los Angeles region to the San Francisco Bay Area, roughly following the Interstate 5 corridor. The Hyperloop Genesis paper conceived of a hyperloop system that would propel passengers along the 350-mile (560 km) route at a speed of 760 mph (1,200 km/h), allowing for a travel time of 35 minutes, which is considerably faster than current rail or air travel times. Preliminary cost estimates for this LA–SF suggested route was included in the white paper—US$6 billion for a passenger-only version, and US$7.5 billion for a somewhat larger-diameter version transporting passengers and vehicles—although transportation analysts had doubts that the system could be constructed on that budget; some analysts claimed that the Hyperloop would be several billion dollars over budget, taking into consideration construction, development, and operation costs.

The Hyperloop concept has been explicitly "open-sourced" by Musk and SpaceX, and others have been encouraged to take the ideas and further develop them. To that end, a few companies have been formed, and several interdisciplinary student-led teams are working to advance the technology. SpaceX built an approximately 1-mile-long (1.6 km) subscale track for its pod design competition at its headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

Indian Navy May Next Ban Whatsapp, E-Commerce Sites

Not just Facebook, the Indian Navy may also disallow the use of apps like WhatsApp and Amazon by its personnel who are on active duty.
Indian Navy has announced that it is banning Facebook for its personnel as well as the use of smartphones at naval bases dockyards and on warships. At the same time, the Navy is also working on banning apps like WhatsApp and services run by e-commerce sites such as Amazon and Flipkart for its personnel who are on active duty.

The information about blocking of chat apps like WhatsApp and e-commerce apps comes courtesy ANI, which cites unnamed sources. In a tweet, ANI says, "Indian Navy says bans on messaging apps, networking and blogging, content sharing, hosting, e-commerce sites are under promulgation."

The new rules on the use of apps and smartphones for Navy personnel come because of the perceived risk of the leak of sensitive data. Sources told India Today that the steps have been taken because recently seven Navy personnel were caught leaking sensitive information to enemy intelligence agencies on social media. The seven sailors were then arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police based on inputs that cops received from central intelligence agencies.

The risk of smartphones and apps leaking data is quite real, although so far not much thought has been given to it by India's security agencies. Almost all apps, particularly on Android, collect and often transmit GPS data, which can reveal the location of military installations. Earlier last year it was found that using data collected by activity tracking app Strava researchers were able to find out the location of secret US military bases because army personnel at these bases were using the app to record their jogging or walking sessions.

At the same time, there is also a risk that some apps or smartphones can secretly collect data and can transmit it to servers outside India without even without any permission from a user.

Recently, the New York Times wrote about how it managed to get a file that had data of over 12 million users collected over two years. Using this data, the US newspaper was able to easily pinpoint the movements of phone users. In one case, it tracked a Microsoft employee.

"In one case, we observed a change in the regular movements of a Microsoft engineer. He visited one Tuesday afternoon to the main Seattle campus of a Microsoft competitor, Amazon. The following month, he started a new job at Amazon. It took minutes to identify him as Ben Broil, a manager now for Amazon Prime Air, a drone delivery service," the newspaper wrote.

                  Brazil fines Facebook $1.6 million

Brazil’s ministry of justice yesterday said it fined US tech giant Facebook 6.6 million reais ($1.6m) for improperly sharing user data.

The ministry’s department of consumer protection said it had found that data from 443,000 Facebook users was improperly made available to developers of an App called “thisisyourdigitallife.”

The data was being shared for “questionable” purposes, the ministry said in a statement.

Facebook said in an emailed statement that it was evaluating its legal options regarding the case.

“We are focused on protecting people’s privacy,” the company said, adding that it had made changes that restricted “the information which App developers can access.”

The ministry said the world’s largest social network failed to provide users with adequate information regarding default privacy settings, particularly related to data of “friends” and “friends of friends.”

The ministry said it launched the investigation following media reports of the misuse of data by political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica in 2018.

Facebook has 10 days to appeal the decision. The fine should be paid within 30 days.

                    Xiaomi's 66w Fast Charging System

Xiaomi is developing a 66W fast-charging system that's said to fully recharge a battery in 35 minutes. The Mi 10 Pro could feature this fast-charging system.
Xiaomi conquered the headlines this year when it announced it's working on a 100W fast-charging system for its smartphones. While that 100W fast-charging system is yet to find a launch date, Xiaomi is developing more affordable variants of its fast-charging system, in both wired and wireless categories. The company is rumored to be working on a 50W wireless charging system but that may not be ready in the first half of 2020. However, 66W wired charging is happening soon.

According to GizmoChina, a recent post on Weibo suggests that Xiaomi is working on its 66W fast charging system and it might debut on its first flagship phone for 2020- the Mi 10 Pro. The tipster also says that the Mi 10 Pro with the fast charging system will be able to do a full recharge of its battery within 35 minutes. That's faster than any other fast charging technology that Xiaomi offers currently on any of its phones.

On paper, the 66W fast charging system doesn't manage to beat Realme's SuperVOOC fast-charging system. However, Realme used a 4000mAh battery on the X2 Pro and the 50W fast charging system could fill it up by 33 minutes. Xiaomi could be offering a bigger 5000mAh battery on its Mi 10 flagship and hence, it takes the faster 66W system to fill it within 35 minutes.

On the other hand, the tipster says that Xiaomi's 50W wireless charging system is still under development and it could take a while before it reaches the market, possibly by the latter half of 2020. Chances are that Xiaomi could bring support for its 50W wireless charging system on the Mi 10 Pro flagship or launch it later with another Mi Mix series phone in the latter half of 2020.

The Mi 10 Pro could be the phone from Xiaomi to feature the new Snapdragon 865 and going by the nature of the chipset, it will come with support for 5G networks. There have been no major leaks about the Mi 10 Pro but expect Xiaomi to offer a large AMOLED display with possibly a small notch or a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. Xiaomi could also debut its under-display camera tech with the Mi 10 Pro.

                    • How To Get Spam Out Of Your Email

                      1. Don’t give your email out to any strange sites or email sign-ups.
You’d be surprised how easy this step is, yet how hard it is to actually follow. Marketing these days is outstanding, and sometimes you don’t even know you’re signing up for a sketchy email list. Make sure the site you are on seems reputable and if you have any doubts, don’t.

The more people who have your email address, the more spam you’re going to get. It’s a good idea to make a separate email address for the times when you’re not comfortable sharing your personal email.

                      2. Train your filter.
Deleting spam once it has made its way into your inbox isn’t enough. Make sure you select it and tell your email provider that the particular message is spam. This may look different for every email service you use, but for Gmail all you have to do is select the email and press the “report spam” button in the toolbar.

If you’ve had real emails end up in spam (annoying), then make sure you’re going through your spam folder regularly and selecting the “not spam” button to make sure those emails don’t end up in the wrong folder again.

                      3. Do not respond to spam, EVER!
It’s better to realize a message is spam before you open it, but if you open it – close it immediately. Don’t click any links or buttons or download anything. This is a sure way to have your email invaded with issues along with brings malware and viruses to your device.

If you received a spam email from a friend or family member, let them know their email has been compromised.

                      4. Hit the unsubscribe button.
If you’re getting pesky emails from reputable companies – the easiest thing you can do is unsubscribe. However, make sure when you unsubscribe, you make sure you’re unsubscribing from all emails that you don’t want. Some companies require an extra step or two before you’re fully unsubscribed form all emails.

                      5. Change your email address.
Yes, this is drastic, but if your email becomes overloaded with spam, it can be a very long and unpromising job to try and get rid of it all.

If you do take up this option, you’ll have to let all of your legitimate contacts know about the change and you’ll probably have to keep both addresses for a few months. However, after a few months, your spam count will plummet.

                      • Self-Powered Graphene-Based Wearable Sensors

The growth of IoT is prompting researchers to develop wearable sensors that can monitor patients’ vital signs remotely. However, devices for monitoring vital signs currently available in the market tend to be uncomfortable and bulky. They are also expensive and need experts to use them. Scientists at the University of Exeter in the UK have now developed sensors that can be integrated directly into textiles themselves, to remove the discomfort of placing hardware directly in contact with human skin. The new technology integrates the electronic devices into the fabric of the material, by coating electronic fibres with light-weight, durable components that will allow images to be shown directly on the fabric, reports Exeter. The research team believe that the discovery could revolutionize the creation of wearable electronic devices for use in a range of everyday applications, as well as health monitoring, such as heart rates and blood pressure, and medical diagnostics. The team was led by Professor Monica Craciun from the University of Exeter Engineering department. This international collaborative research included experts from the Centre for Graphene Science at the University of Exeter, the Universities of Aveiro and Lisbon in Portugal, and CenTexBel in Belgium. “For truly wearable electronic devices to be achieved, it is vital that the components are able to be incorporated within the material, and not simply added to it,” said Professor Craciun.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is slated to launch in 2021. K Sivan said that the Chandrayaan-3’s configuration will be similar to that of its predecessor, the Chandrayaan-2. This means that the Chandrayaan-3 will also have a lander and a rover with a propulsion module. In a press conference, the Isro chief said that all activities related to the third lunar mission are going on smoothly and added that the Chandrayaan-3 will not affect other satellite programs. Apart from the Chandrayaan-3, Isro chief K Sivan also mentioned that there will be more than space 25 missions this year. On the landing location of the Chandrayaan-3, K Sivan said that Isro is planning for landing at the same location as the Chandrayaan-2, the lander of which crash-landed on the moon surface just moments before it was supposed to soft-land.

Isro chief K Sivan also spoke about the cost of the upcoming Chandrayaan-3 mission and said that the lander and rover of the third lunar mission will cost approximately Rs 250 crore. The entire cost of the mission, however, will be Rs 250 plus 365 crores, K Sivan said. The total cost of the Chandrayaan-2 mission was Rs 960 crore. K Sivan also said that preparations for the Gaganyaan mission are going on simultaneously with the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft that is intended to send 3 astronauts to space for a minimum of seven days by 2022, as part of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. The spacecraft, which is being developed by the Isro, consists of a service module and a crew module, collectively known as the Orbital Module.

K Sivan, in the press conference, also spoke about the possible reasons which led to the crash landing of Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander. He said that while the rough breaking phase went as it was supposed to go, the velocity was not reduced in the second phase due to which, in the third phase, the lander went out of control leading to a hard landing. Chandrayaan-2's lander Vikram and rover were scheduled to land on the near side of the Moon, in the south polar region September 6 last year and conduct scientific experiments for one lunar day, which approximates two Earth weeks. However, Vikram lander deviated from its intended trajectory lost communication when touchdown confirmation was expected. A successful soft landing would have made India fourth country after USSR, US and PRC to do so. Union Minister Jitendra Singh also on Tuesday had said that India will launch Chandrayaan-3 in 2020 and had asserted that the mission will cost less than the previous lunar mission, Chanrayaan-2. Singh, who is the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, had said it is wrong to term Chandrayaan-2 as a disappointment since it was India's maiden attempt to land on the lunar surface and no country could do so in its first attempt. "Yes, the lander and rover mission will most likely happen in 2020. However, as I have said before, the Chandrayaan-2 mission cannot be called a failure as we have learnt a lot from it. There is no country in the world that has landed on its first attempt. The US took several attempts. But we will not need so many attempts," Singh said. He added that the experience gathered from Chandrayaan-2 and available infrastructure will bring down the cost of Chandrayaan-3.

The latest update to Telegram lets users create their themes and the ability to send a message when the receiver is online.
WhatsApp has been getting a lot of attention from its developers, with new features dropping every month to make the chatting experience better. However, its rival instant messaging service Telegram has already more features to offer to its users and with the latest update, there's even more for Telegram subscribers. The app now lets its users change the theme as well as schedule messages when the receiver goes online.

The latest update to Telegram brings a new Theme Editor 2.0 that now allows its users to change the theme complete with new colors and backgrounds. Unlike the previous versions, the new update will now users customize the interface with any color they like to pick from the color picker tool. The custom color can be applied to chat bubbles, backgrounds or even the entire app. The themes are even applicable when the dark mode is enabled on the app. Yes, Telegram already has a dark mode for its users.

Apart from the new theme editor, Telegram will now also let users schedule messages based on when the user goes online. The feature is called 'Send when online' and it will send the message to the person when he/she goes online. Android users on Telegram can now also select parts of text instead of selecting the entire text in the message (this feature was already available on iOS).

A host of other changes have also been made to the Telegram app and most of them have to deal with the way the app's interface looks. Telegram says Dark Mode is now easier to enable and archived messages can be marked as read instantly. Android users will also see new animations within the app.

In contrast, WhatsApp has lesser features but it is also getting most of these features slowly. WhatsApp is yet to get a dark mode on Android and iOS. Additionally, a lot of new features with regards to group chats have been made. Group admins will also be able to schedule a message's life in a group. Hence, messages can auto-delete themselves after a set time in a WhatsApp group.
