    Having been convicted in a road rage case which led to the death of an elderly man, Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday surrendered to the authorities in Patiala and is expected to undergo his prison sentence in the coming days.
    Barely ten months after he was appointed the chief of Punjab's ruling party to humiliating losses in elections to being convicted in a road rage offence, time wheel of time has taken a different turn for the cricketer-turned-politician. Like his Akali rival Bikram Singh Majithia, Sidhu will have to spend considerable time behind bars.
    Yet, it is not just Sidhu who finds himself in the doldrums. The once mighty Punjab unit of the Congress that boasted of many stalwarts finds itself in a much weakened state.

    It was on July 18 last year, that the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the party's state chief in Punjab. The state was due for elections and with a massive majority in assembly the Congress was still in the reckoning. The farm stir had pushed BJP to the margins and traditional rival Akali Dal was not gaining ground. AAP was a threat yet still untested in Majha and Doaba regions of Punjab.
