PM Narendra Modi Launches Plan to Tackle Water Shortage in India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a 60-billion-rupee ($842 million) plan to tackle water shortages in the country’s seven heartland states where agriculture is a mainstay. India, the world’s second-most populous country, faces the worst long-term water crisis in its history as demand outstrips supply, threatening farm output and overall economic growth in Asia’s third-largest economy. Almost every sector of the $2.6 trillion economy is dependent on water, especially agriculture, which sustains two-thirds of India’s 1.3 billion people. “Water shortages in the country not only affect individuals and families; the crisis also has an effect on India’s development,” Modi said. “We need to prepare the new India to deal with every single aspect of the crisis.” The plan launched by Modi would help replenish ground water and boost overall availability in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat states, which produce staples such as rice, wheat, sugar and oilseeds.

India is the world’s leading producer of an array of farm goods, and nearly 60% of the irrigation for agriculture comes from ground water, mainly through electric water pumps. Subsidised electricity gives farmers an incentive to pump out more water, a key reason behind fast-depleting water tables in the vast country. Supplying clean drinking water to millions of poor people and reviving moribund irrigation projects were a key part of Modi’s policies for India, where the monsoon accounts for nearly 70% of the annual rains needed to water farms and recharge aquifers and reservoirs. Nearly half of India’s farmland, without any irrigation cover, depends on annual June-September rains to grow a number of crops. Drinking water is also an issue, as about 200,000 Indians die every year due to inadequate access to safe water and 600 million face high to extreme water stress, according to the National Institute for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, a think tank chaired by Modi. According to UK-based charity WaterAid, about 163 million people in India — roughly 12% of the population — do not have access to clean water close to home.

Suryadeva, can you tell who this is by his clothes?

For the solar eclipse on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore designer sunglasses — Maybach Diplomat-I with Carl Zeiss lenses, similar to the pair he wore to China in 2015. These spectacles, which bear the logo of the German carmaker, cost more than $2,159 online, whose rupee equivalent is above Rs 1.5 lakh.

“Most welcome... enjoy!” is what the Prime Minister told someone on Twitter who had commented that the photograph Modi had tweeted (below left) would turn into a meme.

PM Modi, Amit Shah Have Lost Trust Of People, Says Digvijaya Singh

Digvijaya Singh and several other party leaders are in the national capital to attend the Congress Foundation Day celebrations at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office.
Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have lost the confidence and trust of the people of the country.

Protests are being held across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act which grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

              PM Modi Launches Outreach Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inviting the public to express support for the Citizenship Amendment Act with a new hashtag, as protests against the controversial law continue.
rime Minister Narendra Modi has launched an outreach campaign with the hashtag #IndiaSupportsCAA to gather support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which has sparked furious, sometimes deadly protests across India in recent weeks.

PM Modi's official website tweeted that the CAA "is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees and not about taking anyone’s citizenship away".

At around the same time, PM Modi tweeted a video featuring spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who he said had provided a "lucid explanation of aspects relating to CAA" and "calls out the misinformation by vested interest groups".

In PM Modi’s tweet, Sadhguru says govt was caught napping on CAA, failed to communicate properly

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stepped in to counter what the government terms a "misinformation campaign" against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by people and groups with vested interests. He put out a tweet containing a week-old video by spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev, popularly known as Sadhguru among his followers.

PM Modi posted the tweet with hash-tag #IndiaSupportsCAA, commenting, "Do hear this lucid explanation of aspects relating to CAA and more by @SadhguruJV. He provides historical context, brilliantly highlights our culture of brotherhood. He also calls out the misinformation by vested interest groups."

In this video, Sadhguru interestingly holds the government accountable for protests and vandalism, though indirectly. Sadhguru says in the video while responding to a question put to him by a young woman from Lucknow, that due to the lack communication from the government side "for whatever reasons", some people "took advantage and spread misinformation" about the CAA.

Precisely at 13.35 minutes into the video, Sadhguru says, "It looks like that the government was caught napping They did not expect such a big reaction to such a simple issue."

Again at the 20.05 mark, Sadhguru can be seen saying, "In some way, I think, for whatever reasons, I think, the government has failed to communicate this properly. Otherwise, personally I don't see one issue on these things. But I think communication-wise, the way it was communicated, a certain number of people are perceiving at as a threat to them."

Ranchi Lawyer Files Case Against PM Modi, Amit Shah For Not Fulfilling 2014 Poll Promises

The prime minister, home minister and their colleague Ramdas Athawle have been accused of telling a bundle of lies in election rallies and taking common people for a ride.
A case has been lodged by a Ranchi lawyer in the district court against PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and others for not fulfilling the promise made during the campaign trail in 2013-14 and in the BJP manifesto.

The prime minister, home minister and their colleague Ramdas Athawle have been accused of telling a bundle of lies in election rallies and taking common people for a ride.

The lawyer HK Singh, in his complaint, claims that the BJP leaders promised to credit Rs 15 lakhs in every account but took a U-turn after they mustered the majority by cheating the common man. Singh said, "Even I am feeling duped and so does the common people of the country by the cunning and deceit of the BJP leaders."

On the basis of Singh's complaint, the court has registered a complaint under section 415, 420 and 123 (B) and the next hearing is on February 1.

Taking the opportunity, Opposition party Congress took a jibe at the BJP.

Party spokesperson Alok Dubey said that the case was proof that the people were fed up of the volley of lies, the BJP leaders speak fluently. "Now, the people have started to react and express their anger against the fraud and baseless assurance of BJP leaders. They never match to what they say... someday people fuming in wrath can take to streets against the tall claims of Union government," the Congress leader said.
