  • Reliance Jio New Scam

    You Need To Know................

If you have received a message claiming to be sent by Reliance Jio about new offers along with services then be very careful. The popularity of Reliance Jio is a prime attraction for scammers to send phishing messages and lure users into downloading malicious apps. Recently, cybersecurity firm Symantec found 152 malicious Android apps being circulated online that claim to provide free data boosts for Jio customers.

A new SMS is being shared by miscreants which reads: “Good News!! Jio is giving free 25GB Data Daily for 6-months Download app and register to activate offer link: **tiny URL**” Note that this SMS is not sent by Reliance Jio and it is just a phishing scam.
On clicking the “tiny URL” in the message, an APK file name “My Prime” gets downloaded. Users are requested not to go ahead and install the APK file on their Android phones as it could potentially be a hidden malware stealing personal data.

There are about 152 APKs under 21 different package names, all of which claim to offer a free daily data allowance of 25 GB or 125 GB for a period of time ranging from one day to one year. However, these apps do not provide any extra data to users.

Mukesh Ambani-led telecommunications, which had promised to keep all voice calls free, said it was “compelled” to start charging its over 350 million users to recover the 6 paise a minute interconnect usage charge (IUC) it pays to other telcos, till the regulator brings the fee down to zero. But it will compensate its users by giving additional data, to ensure no “effective increase” in tariffs for its customers.

All Jio customers who want to make a voice call to either Vodafone Idea or Airtel will have to buy additional top-up vouchers of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100, for additional IUC minutes.

Calls from Jio to Jio, to landlines and those made over apps such as WhatsApp, will remain free. All Jio customers who want to make a voice call to either Vodafone Idea or Airtel will have to buy additional top-up vouchers of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100, for additional IUC minutes. SBICap Securities’ head of research Rajiv Sharma said Jio’s decision to recover IUC from consumers may have a cascading effect in pushing up tariffs indirectly. “Airtel and Vodafone Idea could easily respond to Jio’s move by hiking voice rates, finally ending the era of free voice tariffs,” he said.

Don't fall pray to these fake free Jio recharge offers

The important thing to note over here is that Jio official site doesn't have any information regarding any such offer.
