Virat Kohli Continues To Top ICC Test Rankings, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane Slip

India skipper Virat Kohli retained his top spot among batsmen while Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane slipped in the latest ICC Test rankings issued on Wednesday. With 928 points, Kohli is way ahead of second-placed Australian maestro Steve Smith (911), the ICC said in a statement. Pujara was placed sixth, down one rung, with 791 points, while Rahane occupied the ninth spot after slipping a couple of positions with 759 points. In bowling, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, returning from an injury layoff, remained static at sixth position with 794 points, while spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (772 points) and seamer Mohammed Shami (771) were ninth and 10th respectively.

Indore T20I: All-round India make short work of Sri Lanka

All-round India ticked all the boxes on Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan's return to international cricket and swept Sri Lanka aside by seven wickets to take 1-0 lead in the second T20 international at the Holkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

The first match in Guwahati was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain and damp pitch. Virat Kohli and his boys will now look to seal the series in the final match of the series in Pune on Friday.
Chasing a reasonable 143 for victory, Kohli (30 not out) smashed a six in the 18th over to seal the deal for the rampaging hosts with 15 balls to spare.

K.L. Rahul scored 45, Shreyas Iyer got 34 and the returning Shikhar Dhawan made 32 as India never really looked in any sort of trouble after their bowlers fired in unison to keep the Lankans in check.

The two openers, vying for the second opener's slot along with Rohit Sharma for the World T20 later this year, got India off to a solid start. Rahul looked good, hitting six fours before his ambition got the better of him as leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga cleaned him up with a delivery wide of the crease in the 10th over.

      IPL 2020

While the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to get underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29, the final will be played on May 24. The 57-day window also means that host broadcasters are likely to have their way and there will be no doubleheaders. The starting time is almost certain to be 7:30 pm. Sources in the know of developments confirmed that the 2020 edition will be played over 57 days and the longer window means that doubleheaders could now be a thing of the past. "While the full schedule isn't ready yet, the final is set to be played on May 24 and with the tournament starting on March 29, you obviously get a longer window than say 45 days. So, there should be no issue in accommodating one game a day. In fact, it should be a walk in the park for those chalking out how matches will be played over 57 days," the source said. Asked about the starting time, considering that broadcaster is keen on an early start, the source said it was almost certain that games will start at 7:30 pm and it isn't just about the broadcasters, it is also about how late games finished last season. "See, TRP is an issue for sure, but let us not just put it on that as you can for yourself go back and see how late the games finished last season. Even for those coming into the stadium, it was quite an issue going back home after the game. While it is being discussed, but looks like we may start at 7:30 pm. this edition onwards," the source pointed. But franchises believe that for crowds to come in at that point in time on a working day is almost impossible. "If you are living in a metro, you do know the kind of traffic issues there is say in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru. Do you seriously believe that it is possible for people to leave office at around 6 pm and then come into the stadium with their families by the time the game gets underway? This is an area that needs to be taken into consideration before changing the timing of the game," the official of one of the franchises said.

Who is Virat Kohli's 'surprise package'?

Moments after a clinical win over Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Indore on Tuesday, Virat Kohli got the Indian cricket fraternity curious. He named Prasidh Krishna as a probable "surprise package" in his fast-bowling attack. "I think one guy will be a surprise package going to Australia. Someone who can bowl with pace and has bounced. Prasidh Krishna has done well in the domestic arena. It is a great luxury to have this group of bowlers in all formats. Looking at the World Cup, we have enough options," Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony on Tuesday. Recuperating from two injuries which have kept him out of action since the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinals in October, India skipper’s comments must’ve been like a soothing balm for Karnataka’s fast-bowling find Prasidh. Kohli and the team management are currently happy with the fast-bowling resources at their disposal. Strengthening the pool of sharp pacers across formats has been key to Kohli’s dominant run as India’s captain over the last three years.

Shane Warne's baggy green sold for over one million dollars

Shane Warne's baggy green, which he put up for auction to raise funds for bushfire relief, has been bought by the Commonwealth Bank for over one million dollars.

With minutes to go in the auction, the figure crossed into the million mark with the website listing an 'MC' from Sydney making the final bid of AUD1,007,500. It later emerged that MC stood for CBA chief executive Matt Comyn who said that the bank - who are one of Cricket Australia's major partners - would take the baggy green on a tour around Australia to raise further money before putting it on display at the Bradman Museum in Bowral.

"I am delighted that CBA has been able to secure Shane's cherished baggy green cap," Comyn said. "This has not only raised another $1 million for bushfire relief, it will also enable us to raise further funds for the bushfire appeal as the cap commences a fundraising tour across the country before retiring as a permanent exhibit at the Bradman Museum in Bowral to be enjoyed by all Australians and cricket fans.

"I want to thank and commend Shane for giving up one of his most cherished possessions for such an important cause. He has demonstrated the same Aussie spirit we are seeing across the country with acts of generosity and dedication throughout this disaster as communities rally to support each other."

Moments after bidding closed, Warne tweeted: "Thank you so much to everyone that placed a bid & a huge Thank you / congrats to the successful bidder - you have blown me away with your generosity and this was way beyond my expectations! The money will go direct to the Red Cross bushfire appeal."

Under-19 World Cup: Yashasvi Jaiswal Stars As India Crush Pakistan To Storm Into Final

India defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets to storm into their third successive final in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. India will now play the winner of the second semi-final between Bangladesh and New Zealand. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyaansh Saxena helped India gun down the modest target of 173 with 10 wickets to spare after the highest partnership of the 2020 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. Yashasvi was unbeaten on 105 as he finished off the chase with a massive six as early as the 36th over. Divyansh was not out on 59 as the India openers put on a masterclass on Tuesday. India and Pakistan have now won 5 matches against each other in all Under-19 World Cups. If India manage to win the World Cup final on Sunday (February 9), they will extend their title count to 5. India are already the most successful team in the history of the Under-19 World Cup. A little over 2 years ago, India had crushed Pakistan in the semi-final of the 2018 U19 World Cup after Shubman Gill's unbeaten 102 had lifted the Indian U-19s to 272 for 9 off their 50 overs. In response, Pakistan were bundled out for 69. In Potchefstroom on Tuesday, Pakistan had won the toss and decided to bat. Haider Ali and skipper Rohail Nazir hit gritty fifties but India pacers Sushant Mishra (3 for 28) and Kartik Tyagi (2 for 32) were too hot to handle.

Mohammad Kaif After Kl Rahul's 64-Ball 88 Runs Unbeaten Knock In 1st ODI

KL Rahul has proved himself in every possible way, be it batting at different slots or working behind the stumps. Once again on Wednesday, batting at No. 5, Rahul played a 64-ball 88-run unbeaten knock and powered India to 347/4 against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match rubber following which former cricketers have now started praising the Karnataka opener. Referring to the versatility Rahul has shown, former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif said on Twitter: "KL Rahul is Team India's very own Swiss knife". Just-retired Irfan Pathan felt it was surprising how Rahul had been ignored for the Test squad for the upcoming series agaianst the Kiwis despite being at the top of his form.

Sachin Tendulkar 'comes Out Of Retirement' To Face Ellyse Perry In Charity Bushfire Bash

Sachin Tendulkar 'came out of retirement' to bat an over for a charity match to aid Australian bushfire relief at the Junction Oval, Melbourne on Sunday. The former India batsman faced Australia woman fast bowler Ellyse Perry in the special over, his first appearance on the cricket field in "five and a half years". Sachin Tendulkar hit a boundary off the first ball, thanks to a misfield by a woman fire-fighter, who had come to field for Ellyse Perry for the special cause. On Saturday, Tendulkar revealed in a tweet that he has a shoulder injury but promised that he will come out to bat "against the advice of his doctor". "Sounds great Ellyse. I would love to go out there and bat an over (much against the advice of my doctor due to my shoulder injury). Hope we can generate enough money for this cause, and to get me out there in the middle," Tendulkar tweeted in reply to Perry's challenge on social media.

Yuvraj Singh, Shahid Afridi Bat For India-Pakistan Bilateral Series

Former India and Pakistan players Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi said that cricket matches between the two countries will be better for the game as a whole. Afridi said that the series would be "bigger than the Ashes." Both players have been part of teams that toured either country in bilateral series. While they have retired from international cricket, Yuvraj and Afridi still play T20 leagues around the world. "I remember playing against Pakistan in 2004, 2006 and 2008 in bilateral series. These days yeah, there has not been enough of that," Yuvraj told Sports360. "But these things are not in our hands. We play cricket for the love of the sport. We cannot choose which country to play against ourselves. But what I can say is that the more India v Pakistan cricket there is, the better it is for the sport," he said.

Time To Take Focus Off Jasprit Bumrah

There is underlying anxiety over Jasprit Bumrah's form. He has been the showstopper of a rapidly evolving Indian pace attack these past two years. Such has been his impact that his quiet return has left quite a few worried about the potency of the team's fast-bowling resources. If Bumrah's absence due to injury left the followers of Indian cricket restless, his off-colour show in the two home series and the limited-overs leg in New Zealand highlighted the team's dependence on him.
