As we approach Maha Shivaratri this year (falling on February 26, 2026), I wanted to start a thread where we can discuss this significant Hindu festival and share our experiences and traditions.
About Maha Shivaratri:
Maha Shivaratri, meaning "The Great Night of Shiva," is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism. It's observed on the 14th night of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna (February-March). Devotees believe this is the night when Lord Shiva performed the Tandava, the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction.
Traditional Observances:
Many devotees observe a day-long fast, visit Shiva temples, perform special pujas, and stay awake through the night in prayer and meditation. The chanting of "Om Namah Shivaya" fills temples across the country, and offerings of bel leaves, milk, and water are made to the Shiva Lingam.
