India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, marking another year of freedom since independence in 1947. The day commemorates India’s liberation from British rule and the moment when Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the first national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi on August 15, 1947. Each year, the Prime Minister hoists the tricolor at Red Fort, followed by a speech broadcast nationwide, inspiring a deep sense of patriotism and national unity.

Across India, schools, institutions, and communities participate in flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural events, parades, and patriotic songs, reinforcing the nation’s heritage and democratic ideals. This year, the government has invited 14 women entrepreneurs from Uttar Pradesh’s self-help groups—known as “Lakhpati Didis”—to attend the Red Fort celebrations. They will be seen as symbols of women’s economic empowerment and rural self-reliance.
