View Full Version : Richard Gere, a foreign guest

Richard Gere, an outstanding Hollywood actor, overwhelmed Shilpa Shetty at a recent AIDS awareness show by holding her in his arms strongly and then kissing her. This offended many staunch members of the moral police, who then burnt Gereís effigies and demanded an apology from him for hurting Indian sentiments.
For Godís sake, we should stop accusing Richard Gere for breaking Indian norms. Richard didnít do anything that was offensive. It seemed like just a friendly gesture from his side. Leave the actor out of this mess, and frankly even if he may have gone overboard with the kisses, it was more an honour for Shilpa Shetty.
So, what do you think?

Why are the protestors behaving like 90 year old prudish dinosaurs? I think they are driven by political aims rather than genuinely feeling offended. Such protestors are a constant nuisance like mosquitoes and flies.

There are some individuals and politicians whose very existence depends on creating these kind of controversies.
They sleep with prostitutes at night and burn valentines cards or advocate burqa or ghunghat in the day time. They go to dance bars and calls for college going girls to wear only traditional indian outfits.
They should realise that nobody cares for what they say. And even with the media coverage they make no impact on the general people. It only shows them in a poor light.
Besides Richard Gere is a thorough gentleman. He is a down to earth man and a nice guy. All the controversies created on the issue is totally bull shit.

I think that they try to destroy the progress India have made since the last 15 years. India and Hinduism in general have a good image in the the west, contrary to Islam.
Those idiots don't realize that and they are building all that circus to destroy all that India achieve during the last decade.

AIDS is one of the biggest problem in India. I am refering to AIDS because that program was to create awareness about AIDS.
But Richerd Gere's action diverted the attention from the main issue knowing or unknowingly.
Certainly, if the protesters were concerned about the culture they should have given more importance to the AIDS, which is spreading very fast.
