  • Curfew in Riot-hit Mau (UP)

Riot-hit Mau in eastern Uttar Pradesh remained under curfew for the sixth day on Wednesday, though the town's residents were allowed to collect essential
    commodities, including medicines and milk.

Police allowed the people to make their purchases between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., even as the situation arising out of Thursday's communal clashes continued to remain tense.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajendra Pal Singh, confirmed the arrest of 350 persons to date, and added that the police was still looking out for local legislator Mukhtar Ansari, who has been charged with instigating the conflagration.
