Yash Raj Films' latest release "VEER-ZAARA", directed by Yash Chopra, has got the prestigious recognition of being selected as one of the films to be screened at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival, in the "International Forum of New Cinema" section. The annual 10-day festival will be held between 10 to 20 February 2005 in Berlin, Germany.
Over the years the Berlin International Film Festival has cemented its status as a major European film festival and is easily as important as the other film festivals of Venice and Cannes. Unlike many other film festivals, the prestigious Berlinale has throughout most of its fifty-four year history provided interpretation for many of the films screened, as well as for a number of press conferences. Interpretation is also available for meetings of the international jury that meets to discuss which film is to win the coveted Golden Bear and to award a host of other prizes. The Golden and Silver Berlin bear and many honorary awards are one of the most sought-after awards internationally

12 January 2005: Yash Chopra's Love Legend, VEER-ZAARA, has won the hearts of people all over the world. The figures are in, and the verdict is clear. Veer-Zaara is on its way to becoming one of the biggest hits of the year worldwide.

Veer-Zaara recorded the Highest ever opening for a Hindi film in UK. Released at 60 cinemas in the UK, it collected £ 484,993 in its opening weekend, with a per site average of £ 8,083. It opened at number 4 in the UK Box Office, even though it faced competition from Big Hollywood films like Bridget Jones 2 and The Grudge.

Veer-Zaara had to face as many as 12 new releases in its first weekend in UK [BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON, LADIES IN LAVENDER, ANACONDAS, SHAOLIN SOCCER, TOOLBOX MURDERS, A WAY OF LIFE, RECONSTRUCTION, THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER, NOBODY KNOWS, ANGEL ON THE RIGHT, UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ and RADIO ON]. Yet, despite stiff opposition, the collections of the film were astonishing.
