ARTS AND CULTURE CHANDIGARH

Welcome to the rich cultured land of chandigarh .Aside from the traditional religious observances and national holidays, Chandigarh citizens celebrate several fairs and festivals that are uniquely their own.

NOW COMES FEBRUARY:FESTIVAL of ROSES

The Festival of Gardens is a three-day extravaganza organised in the last week of February. Initially called the Rose Festival it intended to encourage people to stroll through the Rose Garden and enjoy the sight of the blooms, performences of music and dance, both classical and folk, flower shows, events for children, and a wide range of delights. Since 1997 it is known as the Festival of Gardens. The CHANDIRARH ADMINISTRATION releases all the breaks out all for this celebration, reminiscent of ancient India's Vasant Utsav in honour of spring.

1'APRIL :FOOL'S DAY

April Fools' Day (April 1) sees poets from all over the country gather at Chandigarh to recite verses in a jocular vein. Even those who do not ordinarily enjoy poetry look forward to the Maha Moorkh Sammelan, or Conclave of Colossal Fools. No other city in India hosts such a gathering.

yeah BAISAKHI

Baisakhi is one of the initial festivals in the new year in the traditional Vikrami calender, it celebrates the wheat harvest, and it is one of the high points of the year for Sikhs as it is anniversary of the founding of Khalsa. As the capital of two basically agrarian states, Punjab and Haryana, this day sees festivities organised by both the state governments as well as the Administration of the UT, and of course many institutions in the city.

WAO :MANGOES
The Mango festival is held in June. Mango-growers from all over India are invited to enter their prize fruits in the various competitions. It is also an occasion for agro-industries, and food industries processing mango into jams, pickles and canned fruit to display their wares.

NOW COMES TEEJ:

Teej is a traditional holiday celebrated by women in the middle of the monsoon season-generally around the first week of August. The Rock Garden with its swings and pavilions is the festival venue and the day is basically a grand picnic with songs and dances, purchase of new bangles, painting the hands with mehndi.
