  • Significance of "Aum" the mantra

Our scriptures mention that before the creation of this universe there is a sound that was all pervading and that sound was the sound of Aum.
Aum itself is omniotent, omnipresent and omniscient. Aum has no begining, no middle and no end. Aum is pure pleasure, it is pure knowledge, it is pure light and it is pure love. Thus all over scriptures recognise. Aum as the ultimate Shakti, the power.
Aum is complete in itself. Aum is chanted whether one is praying to the Nirgun or to the Sagun. If a person has to get out of the cycle of life and death and rebirth again, then he must do meditation of the supreme Aum. In fact, in this universe only Aum is complete in all respects and forms. It is for this reason that the great sage Ved Vyas has said, " Pranvam Mantranam Setu." meaning Aum is the bridge to God.
Therefore every Mantra as given in the Vedas, starts and ends with Aum. Aum is the essence of all mantras. Aum is the Shakti, the power, which lies in all mantras. Without the power of Aum, the mantras would not have the power to bestow the divine grace on the person. The meditation of Aum is beneficial to man.
