  • Haneef wins Australian work visa

    Friday, December 21, 2007 (Brisbane)
Mohammad Haneef has won the case to revive his work visa and is now free to return to Australia to resume his job.

The former Gold Coast Hospital registrar won the legal battle after the Australian Federal Court dismissed an appeal by ousted Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews.

Haneef was arrested by the Australian Federal Police on July 2 at Brisbane, in connection with the failed car bombing at Glasgow Airport involving his cousins Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed.

He was detained without charge, but the case against him eventually collapsed. He flew out of Australia on July 29 after his visa was cancelled.
