This year two Padma Shri awards the most prestigious civilian honour in India were given to foreigners.One award went to author and former British Broadcasting Corporation correspondent Mark Tully and the other one to Australian Gladys Staines, a social worker and the widow of missionary Graham Staines, who was killed by a Hindu mob along with their two sons in 1999.
